I have a Metallic Green Toadstool Leather Coral and we have had it for months and its been doing very well. Its starting to to expand and grow... now all of a sudden I notice a slightly redish area around the base of this coral. I moved it thinking that maybe something was bothering it, but today its a dark red it wraps around the base and is slightly swollen. I have not found anything online about it this sort of behavior or disease if it is one at all. I can try an upload a picture some time tomorrow if that would help.

Thanks,
Scott

Here are 4 images of my Toadstool that has the Redish area at the base. from the front it looks swollen, but from the side it looks like its shrinking.

I am not doing something improperly or is this some sort of sickness?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott

After a week or more of that redish portion on my toadstool it looks like it healed itself and its going away. One thing I did do is I did my normal 1-2 Week 20% water change and bring my Salinity as close to 1.024

It looks like cyano algae. If you have it in other places in your tank then you need to decrease excess nutrients and possibly increase flow.

Thanks for the information! I am not seeing it else where yet, but that's not to say its not in there some where else or I am just not identifying it properly.

I have plenty of flow and in some areas maybe too much, so I don't think Flow is an issue, but researching it gives me some ideas of what might be causing it to occur if that is what it is.

Again thanks for the info, very much appreciated.
