Hi,

The base of my toadstool seems to be roting. it was doing fine before but now it is only opening partially and leaning on the side most of the time.

there is some brown/yellow color at the base of it. is it normal?

should i try to cut the base higher and secure it back to a new rock?

thanks in advance for your help

If it is rotting and falling apart, I would suggest cutting away the rotting tissue with a clean razor blade. Cut a little into the healthy tissue to make sure you get all the necrotic tissue.

Follow with a Reef Dip or possible even a little dip applied directly to the newly cut tissue, then dip.

If it is now unattached from the rock, anchor it between a couple peices of rock, or tie/rubberband gently to the rock. Place it in a moderate flow area. Enough flow to keep the tissue clean, but not enough to blow the coral away.

If it is still attached to the rock, I'd put it in a high flow area.

Now, figure out why it started breaking down to begin with. Injury or bruising can do it, as can Salinity/PH/Temp/ or Alkalinty fluctations.

thank you for the reply.

i would try to do both. Save it and try to frag it just in case. it seems to be doing better when the lights are off though.
