Toadstool Leather with Damaged Base

I noticed tear in the outer "skin" of the base of this toadstool leather. I did not see it at the LFS, so it may have happened in transit (or I just missed it at the LFS). Either way, is this a mortal wound or can Sarcophyton sp. heal from this type of damage?

Leather corals often have a ragged looking base. When I first brought home my toadstool, it had a large hole from where I dug out some kind of burrowing bivalve. It quickly healed.

it seems to be healing. One thing though, the polyp's rod come out all day, but the other toadstools had larger polyps at the end. I am not sure if these are not fully expanding or whether this particular species has small polyps.
