I recently purchased one and i placed it on the sand bed which is approx a little over 24" from the surface ad lights, I have (3) 250watt HQI and (4) 96W PC actinics . Its doesn't seem likes it wants to come out when the HQI are on only when the actinics are on. Should i try relocating it in the tank where there is not much light shinning on it?

I think 24" is a great distance to start it from the lights, They take some time to get happy. Id give it at least a week.

Don't mess with it. They can stay closed for weeks when moved into a new enviroment. Touching, moving, or otherwise futzing with it will probably only prolong its adjustment period. If it's in decent light and not melting/dissolving, I'd suggest just letting it be for at least a week or two before moving it again,

Definitely agree. Give the coral time to get used to the new lighting, flow, etc. 24" away should be a good location.
