Toadstool Mushroom

so I have a brownish toadstool mushroom and when I purchased it, it had almost a 6" stalk (for lack of a better word). Last week or 2 weeks ago, the stalk broke - literally crumbled. I never had a problem with it before, it was always open and the "hairs" were almost always out. I have read that it is difficult to kill a mushroom, and I am wondering if anyone has ever seen this. I went to my LFS and they said they have never seen this and they weren't sure if it was a good thing. I took the crumbled pieces out and my mushroom's edges are turning a lighter brown and it doesn't look very good at all. Any ideas would be great. thanks

This is the section for Mushrooms, not toadstools. You are confused. It is very hard to kill a mushroom, but you have a toadstool not a mushroom.

Post this in the Softies section, more people can help you there. Sounds like it is dying.
