so I have a brownish toadstool mushroom and when I purchased it, it had almost a 6" stalk (for lack of a better word). Last week or 2 weeks ago, the stalk broke - literally crumbled. I never had a problem with it before, it was always open and the "hairs" were almost always out. I have read that it is difficult to kill a mushroom, and I am wondering if anyone has ever seen this. I went to my LFS and they said they have never seen this and they weren't sure if it was a good thing. I took the crumbled pieces out and my mushroom's edges are turning a lighter brown and it doesn't look very good at all. Any ideas would be great. thanks
