toadstool mushroom

Yes they are pretty hardy. They do like a little light though.Mine is right under i of my 250 halides but comes out well under my actiics also.I don't think they require strong light. And they are filter feaders.I have never spot fed mine once.So no they don't require alot of maintenance. That has benn my expierence so far.

For the most part they are a Hardy coral. That being said, I killed the first one I put in my first tank.

I think first you should worry about your water quality, then it wont be hard to keep most corals.

I have some mushrooms that have been through ALOT, and are still kickin.

are we talking about a mushroom here, or a leather? Because a toadstool is not a mushroom, it is a leather :)

Anyways, i personally think they're very easy...i never do a thing to my tank and i've got 3 of them growing really fast. I got one of the neon green ones that a few people have told me are supposed to be slow growers...i've found the opposite lol.

As for light...i dont think they "need" high lighting, but they can take it. I've grown one at the bottom of a 29g tank under just a 2x65w pc fixture. The other 2 in my 40 have done most of their growing under pc's as well (although it was 4x96 on just a 40 lol) but now i just switched over to t5's and they seem to really like the t5 light which is a bit more than what i previously had.

would i be better off with zoas? but aren't they toxic?

why not the leather? What lighting do you have on your tank, and what tank is it?

Yes, zoas are toxic, but i wouldnt even worry about that...just dont eat them lol.

They are pretty easy. Here is a pic of mine which is getting pretty large (compare it to the size of the Tunze).

right now i have a nova extreme 4x54 48 in on a 55g. and you don't do anything special for it right like add iodine or stuff like that?

I dont use any additives at all except Lime in my topoff water to maintain ca/alk.

like sjm said, i use no additives. Every now and then i used to add salifert trace soft, but i havent added that for over a month now and dont think i'll use it anymore really. Just do a waterchange every other week or whatever and that will replace whatever your corals use.

That light is PLENTY for toadstools.
