Toadstool problem or normal behavior?

Hi. I've had a toadstool about a week now and it seems like it's been looking better every day. Yesterday it looked like this:

Today - it has had no polyps out all day, or even the extensions that the polyps appear on at the tips - just a flat surface. It's standing up straight & no evident problems on the stalk or leathery surface. Do they sometimes act like this for no reason?

mine does that all the time - never sure whether it's water conditions or not but it always seems to open up after after a few hours or at most a day or two

Thanks much. I thought I had read that the leathers sometimes do these things, but I get concerned whenever any of the life in my tank doesn't look right. Hopefully it will open up tomorrow.

Hi - day 3 now & no change. It looks healthy enough. Standing up straight on the stalk & no signs of any problems at all. The surface seems to be shiny - weird. I guess I'll just wait it out.

Well, at 3pm today I looked at the toadstool and the polyps are all popping out. Some of that shiny covering is still attached at the edges, almost like a very thin sheet of plastic wrap. I guess it finally awoke from it's recuperation time, or whatever they do. Made my day!

most leathers go in a waxy type of phase when they are put in a new tank. Itll be fine. Its a nice looking one too!

Mine fell down between some rocks head side down in the sand and was there for about a week. Pulled it out and of course it was closed up tight. Anyway I re-glued it to a rock. It took a week before it came back out. I was just about to give up and planed on throwing it away the next day if nothing happened. Low and behold a single polyp was popping out. That was three week ago. It’s doing fine now. Pretty hardy little buggers.
