That toadstool is sweet! If you don't want it because it's the "boring variety" I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands. :D

I have one of the same variety and I actually like that it's different. Had a meet at my place a few weeks ago and people kept asking me how long I have had my gig. anemone. :P

can you put toadstools close together? I already have one and it would be difficult to find a place for it not right next to the existing one.

Mine is nearly 2 feet across. I've never seen another toadstool that large in person. My neon green polyp frags itself too much to grow large.

And my two types of toadstools were close together and never had an issue. However, they are capable of chemical warfare and it can affect other things in the tank. YMMV.

Under one week

Give it time to acclimate. I can see some of the tentacles look like they are close to opening and other not so much. Do you have any coral food like Coral frenzy, reef frenzy, reef chili or any others? Try feeding one of them and see if it doesn't open up for you.

I recently got Coral Frenzy and it's great stuff. No refrigeration and doesn't take but a 1/4 of a teaspoon to feed a 50 gal tank Fish love it too. It's pretty cheap too when you figure in using only a 1/4 teaspoon once or twice a week and they seem to love it. All corals and mushrooms open up to suck it in.

It does kinda look like a gig anemone. That's awesome, it's huge! I need to find one of those.

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and feed it. When I use the Coral Frenzy they all open up with it circulating in the tank. Really cool to watch them open up more and extend to eat.

To answer the part of your original post about putting leathers close to each other - I have many types of leathers (10+ varieties) and many touch each other or are very close. Never have seen any issues. It's more of a concern about how they affect SPS and other sensitive corals.

Right now my toadstool is in the same tank with a monticap and a birdsnest. No problems...yetz

I did not see this coral open at the store. They told me someone brought it in today. so I put it in the tank and it expanded by about 10 inches and laid on a red planet which burnt it pretty badly. It was all melted but that was 3 days ago and it has already recovered perfectly!

I'm a little worried about feeding it, don't really want it growing any faster. But i'll try it next time I feed the tank to see if it likes it
