I have caught angles there myself. Nice place to snorkel. But you knwo those fish are going to get huge!

It must be nice to go snorkeling and catch your own fish and inverts. Is there a legality issue with that? If I tried to do that and bring it back home to Canada I would get arrested at the border for not having the proper CITES permits. Is that not a problem down there? Of course, how could they inforce it everywhere, right? They can't patrol every inch of beach in Florida.

All that stuff, if bought in my LFS would run me about $240 plus tax up here. I guess you got a good deal. :)

You only have a 29 gallon however, and like DaveG99 mentioned, the angels are going to grow a lot. Do you have plans to upgrade your tank size to accomodate them?

yeah i live in puerto rico and i have the luck to just go to any beach and snorkel and pick any fish i wanna catch and put em in my tank.i think the law is if its for your personal tank its no problem if ur catching to sell its a problem

I don't think they would know unless you got a huge boat and catching the whole reef itself. Fish and corals.

If it's just tidbits I am sure for every fish you take, another 39 are born that very second.

Didn't you know?

90% of the world is covered in water.

There are 4 Billion people in the world, living on 10% of land.

4 Billion Times 90 = 90 Billion to Trillion Fishes left for you to catch!

Including Whales to Plankton!

it is legal and yes wildlife officers will check your boat or my 5 gallon jug that i was using to store them for the ride home. and yes i know they will get huge i am only keeping them for part time , then will let them out to a lfs or a local.

I wasn't busting your chops scottallert. I was just speculating about what would happen if I went down south and tried to bring something back with me. I envy you the opportunity to be able to do what you do. I went to Hawaii and I was snorkeling with a school of very large Naso tangs. They never even tried to get away from me. They must see people often. I thought to myself how beautiful one of these would be in my tank, but of course you can't board a plane with a fish in a bag.

I asked about your plans for the fish because there are people out there who wouldn't think twice about keeping fish in a tank that wasn't suited for the fish they have. Would you ever release them back into the wild when they grow?

Scottallert, great catch, but the french is a grey. The way to tell them apart is the color on the tail, in the french the tail is black surrounded by a complete yellow circle, in the grey the tail has a "C" shaped yellow bar, not a complete circle.

Percula99, there are no CITES paperwork for any of those fish or inverts. You do need a permit, but you can get it (at least here in the U.S.) from your local fish and wildlife office. I used to import and export fish for a living, and we shipped to Canada at least once a month, we would just go to the offices and fill out the paperwork, drop the fish off at the airport and they would go. You'll have more involved with customs and inspection then you will with anything else. On your end I'm not sure what you need, but it should be easy to find out just by asking.

i dont know if i want to release them because i dont want them to go in shock and die id prefer someone local to get them from me so they have a chance of survival,
about the naso tanks fish love to swim up t you i always see giant angels coming up to like school(swim with me) fish really dont get scared as much as people think

Awesome fish. I wish I lived in a place where angels could be caught and placed in your tank. In California if you take a fish home it better look like you are going to eat it or you will be in serious trouble.
