Todd's 180 DT System

MY system is still doing well (like anyone realy cares here on RC,) so I thought I'd post a few more pictures and an update.

MY skimmer has been offline for 2 weeks- do to skimmer pump failure.
My once MASSIVE chaeto mass has also been given away.
Totally relying on my DIT Algae Turf Scrubber.
I do plan on getting another pump for my skimmer- no big hurry though.

Thanks for looking?

Well, good morning,

Today, I figured out the setting on the controllers on the WP pumps a little better.
I currently have a 60, and a 40 - both wp's, in my Display tank.

I realized I had been using the 60, on W1 mode, (on and off- with the cylce set my the turn knob)
in it's lowest setting. I put it to S1, and wow- woke the fish up.
I figure more random flow in the DT can't hurt, right?
Well, maybe wrong!
two of the tree rubber tabs ripped thru the mounting plate hole, partly b/c I had the holding bracket mounted 90degrees to the flow. NOw that it's SO powerful, it pulled two of the three out, and would have gotten the third rubber mount also- except I rescuied it and put it more inline, with the out magnet now being on the side of my DT, and not in the overflow. OH well- I backed it off to S2, and it seems to do fine now.

I'm glad to have my skimmer back online. While I really couldn't see a difference- I do like the dark skim it pulls.
I decided to run a sock or mesh bag on my siphon drain more often too.

Yesterday I siphoned loads of detritus from my sump, and smoe from my FT to my floor drain when I performed my 50g WC ~ 15% WC.

I also cleaned one sheet of my ATS- it has two seperate sheets I stagger the cleanings.

ON a different note; I've been watching one branch of my Bali Green Slimer grow onto, and into one of my larger plating montiporas.
Here's a few pics:

And a top down with some flow off

That was my first post? Could have sworn I had posted before. I do have a suggestion, too much blue in the pictures, I thought the goby looked a little funny all blue.

I agree- my Iphon4- with no editors does really overdue the blue colors.
It is a blue spotted watchman goby!- but he's in the 'shade' and does look very blue.

Tank looks great. I'm gathering pieces to add a scrubber to my 180 so I can feed the tangs without worrying about algae problems.

Speaking of scrubbersl;

I thought I'd chime in and post my latest pic just before scraping with my plastic puddy knife

This was today- about 2 weeks worth
Mine is those needle point plastic sheets, 13.5 x 11.5 ? I think.
I'm using 2 of them vertically so this is 1/4 of my surface area; lit on both sides with 100W equivalent CFL house bulbs- 2700K, 20 hrs on,
4 hrs off.

My only regret, was not building this sooner/years ago!

My water is clearer, algae essentilaly disappeared, no chemicals, GFO, chemipure, etc.

I rarely look at my DT at night with a flashlight- well, it was this morning, not much ambient light, and I had just replaced the batteries in one of our small 'emergency' flashlights.
I looked in the tank a bit with it, and
my RBTA has been split for about a week- one of them moving almost daily.
Well, this morning I see it 'inverted'!- I feel this is a natural thing for a nem, I'm not worried,
It'll 'pull it's head out' somethime today I bet.

This pic is my Iphone4 w/ flash
You can see the 'inverted' nem just to the right of the nem and Oc. Clown.

Try it with a red filter over the light. Marine creatures don't seem to register red light, or at least they don't seem to react to it at night. You can see lots of things that only come out in the darkness that you might not even be aware existed in your tank.
