I've never used it, but like you, I've only seen good reviews on it. If you are serious about it, see if the one you're looking at has a motor built into it. If it doesn't, all focusing will need to be manual.

I was actually looking at this lens a while back. It doesn't have a focus motor on is, so for a D5200 it'd be manual focus only. That's too big a drawback for me, personally.

Yes, as Nick said, manual for shooting macros. The problem is, it's not only good for shooting macros. Most macros in the 100mm range are some of the best portrait lenses out there. You might not miss it. But you could also look at Tamron's 90mm or Sigma's 105mm. Both are available with a motor in the lens, and both are very highly regarded.
I have a D7000 body and I use this lens for the macro shots. I can do auto focus with it. However, when I do macro shots with my tank, I never use auto focus.
Btw, I like this lens a lot. I traded my Nikon 60mm lens with this.
