tokina lens quality?

I can pick up a tokina AF 80-200mm f2.8 ATX PRO for right around 300 bucks, it's supposed to be clean & fully functional
it will be sight unseen, my cousin had a friend that has purchased the canon 70-200 2.8 IS and needs a new home for this tokina lens

does this sound good, bad, indifferent?

thank you for the reviews link ( I read some before asking)

do you or any others here have any personal experience with tokina glass?

(thanks for getting rid of my oops posts)

I have no direct experience with that lens. I do have and use a Tokina 12-24 that is a fantastic lens.

If I were in your shoes I'd be looking for a used 70-200 4L non IS Canon. You should be able to find one for about $400 these days.

Thanks for the advice,

I'm going to risk trying the tokina in order to get the 2.8 glass well within my budget, if I'm not happy with it I'm sure I can break even on cost & add a $100 or so & go to the canon 4L as an upgrade.
It's leaving Florida early next week, should have it by the weekend

cousin picked it up for me last week & didn't have time to ship it until yesterday (9-17) should be here shortly, can't wait to check it out!

delivered late yesterday
not a mark on the glass, all movements are smooth and the AF works as quickly I think it should

fired a few dozen frames last night just to test it
can't wait to try it out for a real picture
