So i bought these 2 clowns from Petco a week ago(ya i know...petco) and the dude there told me that these were True Perculas. One was .75" and the other was about 1-slightly under 1.25" but they did not have the dark black bands around the white. The guy working there said that was because they were juveniles and the black would come more as they mature. well i stumbled on a thread that said if u count the dorsal fins you could tell along with some other tricks vet. reefers use. I tried counting but one time i saw 10 and the other 9 soo im apparently terrible at this. was wondering if someone could help me see if i got the shaft on this deal. the larger one also has a black spot in the front of 2nd bar at the top but only on the right side of the clown.

perc or occy?

petco typically gets in ORA occellaris, and only infrequently perculas. and judging by their appearance, you have two occellaris.

100% ocellaris, take it back to petco and ask for your money back, or go talk to the guy that said it was a percula and punch his teeth out.

ocellarius. They get all there clowns from ORA. you cannot even order a clown from another vendor as it will get routed to ORA. I used to work for them. PETNO!

The easiest way to tell perc from occy in my experience is usually the first dorsal spine. If it stands up quite tall off the body it is usually occelaris, but if it is short when compared to the two directly behind it it is most likely percula.
