Tom Aquatics Rapids Mini Canister Filter C-80

I took one out of the box and checked it out but didn't buy it. It actually runs on 12v DC. It comes with an AC adapter but I thought it might be a cool filter for "Pimp my Ride" when they put a Nano in someones car!

Im using it. Ive had it on my 10g for about 1 month now. Truthfully, its whatevers... ill take pics to show you..

A little overstocked you think? haha I was having a little trouble with my old tank(crack situation) and my 10 was my qt... Im soon setting up a 62g cube, but for the 10 i decided to try the mini canister. It does a descent job but im borrowing a seaclone skimmer from a good friend to help with the high bioload. Im not sure if this helps much...

I think for me its better than the hang on back filters of the same price range. This is very very quiet and the return puts out more flow. Ive heard that people dont like using the canisters because its a nitrate factory. But ive only been using it for a short while to tell whether or not its causing a rise in nitrates. If you ask me? Id say its worth it. I got mine for 29.99 at LFS and if you add the surface skimmer that they have for it, that will contribute as well.

Is that an in- tank fuge you use to keep the chaeto from circulaating around the tank? I think I have seen these on the Marine depo site. Nice lttle set-up, well done.

thanks noschmo,

yea its a lil intank fuge, ghetto style though. I used the return flow from the skimmer over the little fuge for movement but not too much. The only thing im having problems with is heat. Im looking into a probe chiller.

My overall impression of keeping my small aquriums stable, temp wise, is that its dificult. I have a nano custom chiller on a 24 JBL and would always have a chiller on any tank. If one considers that the reef temps are increasing one percent killing coral, whats it like for the animals when these small tanks vary so much, 77-82 with daily fluctuations!
