Tomato Clown

I have a large female 7+ year old tomato clown in my 210. She can be a pain sometimes and chases around the anthias and cardinals but. I have never seen her harm anything though. I don't have any other damsels or clowns in the tank at all.

I was thinking of getting her a male but I am not sure if it is a good idea or not. If I put another small tomato clown in there do you think she will just kill it? She has been the boss for a long time and might not want to share the space.... I'm not really sure though.

Any ideas?

I wish I could help but I to have a ***** of a fish. My tomatoe clown is mean. She trys to bite anything that gets near her anemone. I to have been wondering if a male would help calm her down but I am afraid she will kill it. if you have any success please let me know. Good luck

It is my understanding that clowns are like tangs when it comes to adding them to the tank. It is best to add them at the same time and only those of the same species.

Try putting the small male in a breeder cup for several days to let the female get her aggression out. If she still is attacking the cup then well you know what would happen to the male in the tank. Alternatively set up an area on one side with a divider of some sort that only the small clown can get through. Although this has the disadvantage of making it hard to take the male out if needed.

adding a smaller male around 1-1.5 should be fairly easy. especially in a tank of that size. it will have plenty of room to haul a** if things get bad. try putting him in a transparent container for a couple of days where she can see him. if they interact well then you hsould not have any problem when you release him into the tank.
