Tomato hosting hammer, will it switch?

Moved On
Hey guys. My female tomato is hosting my hammer coral. I am going to get a large BTA soon. Will she switch to the BTA or stick with the hammer. My Tomato clown now stays mostly on top of the hammer and occasionally dives in it and sticks her head out of it. Pretty cool but I would rather her host in the future BTA.

I am also going to get a small tomato juvi for her to pair her up with. Will that change anything hosting wise?

Thanks

I know a guy who had percs hosting on coral, and after a year, they switched to the anemone for no apparent reason. They have stayed with the anemone for a long time now.

Well for one tomatoes are a natural host to E. Quadricolour . FWIW, my male true perc hosted in my frogspawn for a long time, and the BTA. I since got rid of the BTA, moved the frogspawn to the other side of the tank... and he hosts the new Seabae. Well, he tries... the female is calling it her own for now.. heh.

I think your Tomatoe will definitely switch over, it is a natural host to these clowns. Also, just move the hammer to the other side of the tank. And then add the BTA in the same area of the hammer, and I am certain it will take to it.. but there's no guarantees as we all know.

Good luck.. keep us updated.

Well I havn't got the BTA yet. But theres one problem with moving the hammer. Its wedged between two rocks. Its a wall hammer not a branching. Well the rock on the right side is covered in mushrooms. If I were to put the BTA there, it would be an all out war with the Nem and the mushrooms and mushrooms have a good sting. Better not introduce a new anemone to a mushroom battlefield.

I am going to have to probably move some stuff around when I get my BTA so when my corals grow they don't come into contact with the BTA.

I am pretty sure it will swtich to the BTA right away now that I think about as long as its bigger and more appealing than my hammer. Like I said earlier, I am going to pair her up soon with a juvi which will turn into a male since my tomato is a female.

Yes I will keep you guys updated. :)

I didn't know they could host in Bubble corals. I have one and it has no interest in it. Yes my tomato puts his whole body in the hammer coral. Now I am reassured that it will switch once I get a BTA.
