I'm setting up a 65 gallon tank (36"X18"X24") and having trouble with fish stock. I would love to keep both a Tomini bristletooth tang and a lyretail hawkfish, but I'm concerned with how well they would do in the tank. For the tang, I am worried that there is too little swimming space and that it may not be able to find enough algae. It's a small species, but I hear that Tominis aren't too easy to feed. If it won't take what I offer, it would have to make do with whatever algae grew on the live rock (probably about 70 pounds). Any input?
I'm not so concerned about the hawkfish. I originally wanted a longnose, but now I'm thinking about the lyretail because not many people keep them. I just have a couple of behavioral questions. How often do you observe them swimming in the current, and will they eat small (blue leg size) hermit crabs?
I know that two five inch fish (plus one or two more two inch fish) are pushing it in a 65, but I would like to add that I will have a sump (approx 20 gallons) and skimmer. If that is not enough, just let me know. I'd rather not send any of my fish an early grave because of too little space. Thanks for any help.
