I shoot in RAW format so all of my images see some work in post. That said, I don't do anything that you couldn't so in a wet darkroom. Typically, that's adjusting contrast, sharpening and some dodging and burning (selective lightening and darkening). The "soft focus" in the background is a function of the lens, and aperture choice, not software.
