Tony's 240

Been a while since an update.

The system has been running for about a week now. I was able to get the overflow system silent! :) I have put 80 lbs or so of live rock into the sump since everything in my display is base rock. I decided against using much of my previous rock in the new display because of a mojano infestation. To speed the cycling process along I have been exchanging 30 gallons of water from my old system each day. I finalized my aquascape as well and moved my Ocellaris pair into the display earlier this week.

Last weekend I began the construction of my floating canopy. I am using a wooden frame that will be skinned with luan and trimmed/painted to match the stand. The lights sit on an aluminum frame which simply sits down into the wooden canopy. This will hopefully make and changes to the lighting system easier than having to remove the whole canopy. It is suspended by four Sunlight Supply yo-yo hangers. These things are great! Once the canopy is finished, the hangers will be concealed and invisible when viewing the tank.

I have a 240 too! :) best size because its not big enough where small fish/ corals are lost but you can have huge fish/ colonies! Good luck

Exactly. I found that my previous 120 was always too small. I wanted a BIG tank but my limit was 250 gallons. Bigger than that and the maintenace costs go up big time. More light bulbs, more salt, more pumps etc. Five feet is good and the 36" depth is nice. One of the biggest reasons for the upgrade was so I'd have a place for my Achilles.
