Tony's 80g rimless cube

I've the setup! Great choice in lighting and I'm corals. Did mike at reef speciality recommend such an oversized skimmer? I only ask because he recommended an external 5000 for my 211 sps angel reef. Seems overkill but the man knows what he's talking about.

Thanks for the kind words everyone :-).

+1. Would love to see your light and how high you have it mounted!
Guess I should answer this already lol.
I have the halide mounted about 4 inches above the surface of my 21" tall tank. I need the insane par for my Acropora gemmifera which only colors up when it's being fried. This has some unintended consequences: My tank is actually too bright to grow coralline algae (well, too bright to grow it at the nutrient levels I keep; it only grows on the undersides of the rocks), and a lot of acros & montis that most people keep high up in their tank would bleach out on the bottom glass lol. On the plus side, with an estimated 250-300 par on the bottom glass, I can keep high light acros anywhere I want, and my new project is to cover the entire bottom of the tank with bushy and tabling acros, then finish the front bare spots with high-light encrusting corals. It'll be sweet if I get the placements right.

Jaustin, the over-sized equipment is just a personal choice. I cut my reefing teeth at Penn State while working on the 500 gallon HUB auarium. Consequently, my idea of how-big-is-too-big is a bit skewed ;-).

It seems your corals don't mind being blasted with light at all :D

Well, the gemmifera doesn't...

Thank you! Wow, that is a lot of light lol. Well, the no coralline might not be a bad thing. Less Alk you need to dose! My tank is fairly coralline deficient as well, but it seems to be taking off more as of late. Your corals look awesome!! How much, and what all do you feed the corals and fish?

 This is a nice piece where did you get it from looks like a Tubbs pink Jade or a Premoberry or a Reef Ready Grape Juice LOLOL whatever it is it's gonna be nice!!

lol, it's a wild acro that I've been nurturing for the last 3 years, I call it the bananaberry.

Echo, I feed the fish small amounts of formula 2 flake & spectrum pellets in the morning and then PE mysis or cyclopeeze at night. Occasionally I'll throw in some reef-roids for the corals, but that's only when I remember. I get nice colors, but my growth is very slow.

since photobucket is now on my poo list, I'll have to put up some new pics

Very nice! I'll take a piece of that flubber in your frag tank lol

What are you doing differently to regain the pink in that stag?

How could I pass up an acro with my name in it?!! Love the near-black tips.

Hey there tnyr, I just came across your thread and saw you're in Mt. Carmel. I'm new to the area, am pretty close, and would love to meet another aquarist if you're up for it. Toss me a pm and let's talk.

Cheers,
Phil

BTW, saw you were into planted tanks, you should appreciate my last one. It's no longer running because I found it too easy & got bored lol.

Awesome saturated pigments in your corals mate, for me food = deep colors. Beautiful display that i'll enjoy following as it grows
