So I finally got everything set up! But the problem is my overflow is making a major gurgling noise. How can I quiet that down? I'm attaching a picture, because mine is mounted on the back of the tank...not the bottom. Please help!
is there only one drain hole? If so it will be just like turning a full 2 liter upside down. You would need to plump in a T to allow air to enter the pipe.
not to mention you will surely have a flood sooner or later if you do not have an emergency drain...
I would look at a durso style pipe on it. As others mentioned it is risky only having one drain. Should it clog you're likely to flood (especially if you have an ATO)
Don't know about flooding... if your sump's return compartment is not over sized, you should run your pump dry before making a mess. Easy enough to test... just block the overflow and see what happens
If you plumb a 'T' from the rear of the bulkhead with a bit of pipe going up to the tank rim, cap it, and drill a small hole in the cap, it'll help some... Inside the overflow box, use 2 street 90's so that the opening is facing down. Known as a 'Durso' style drain. It's still going to make some noise, but those two can help reduce it.
You can also do a 'reverse durso' at the sump end, allowing air to enter just before splashdown. Can help some.
I recently converted my durso style drain to a herbie style drain because of noise. Couldn't be happier. In your case, that would involve drilling another hole...
I wouldn't be worried about the noise...I would be more worried about your tank overflowing and a whole lot of other problems. Your going to want at least 2 drains on your tank. Search Herbie method or beanAnimal design. More safety, less problems and no noise.
