Too many rock anemones?

I purchased a live rock with a small rock anemone about a year and a half ago. It has proved to be quite prolific and now I have 7, one of which is HUGE. My display tank is only a 25 gallon cube with another 15 gallons in a sump.

I have a small bubble tip as well and a beautiful black clown, assorted hermits and snails. I also have some soft corals, some of which are no longer thriving and I think they are getting squeezed out.

Appreciate opinions

If you can manage to get them, or cut them off the rock, I'm sure there will be many here who would buy them from you;)

How is it reproducing?

They aren't asexual as far as I know. I've had the same one for 2 years and it hasn't done that. It makes me dubious that those are e.crucifer and not some other species.

+1 on everything Bent just said, I have had my rock flowers for many many years, they will "smoke" spawn from time to time, but never do what yours are doing.

Propagation and Feeding

As for propagation, rock flower anemones cannot be cut; however, they reproduce by laying down numerous buds. So far, we have not been able to cultivate the small anemones, but the general consensus is that feeding is required to grow them up. As we acquire some of the more rare color morphs, we certainly want to propagate them to make them more widely available.

Are we not talking about rock flower anemones? Your post are a little confusing to me? Yes Bubble tip anemones can produce asexually,but I'm having a hard time figuring out what that has to do with this conversation ?

was only teasing you about writing enemies instead of anemones. plus you stated rock anemones and all anemones produce sexually. they do, but some do produce asexually also. thats all i was trying to state.
 
I agree those don't look like any rock flower anemone that I've ever seen. They do look like Curlie Q anemones which are related to Aiptasia but aren't nearly as invasive as aiptasia are.

I'd like to know who sold you them as rock flower anemones?
 
A) Those are NOT rock flower anemones they ARE curly-Q anemones and are MUCH more prolific. In the Florida Keys they are all over the place, common as grass in a lawn!

B) To the best of my knowledge, rock flower anemones can reproduce asexually by pedal laceration. They develop very tiny new anemones at the tip of a tentacle and drop them when ready. It's extremely rare in an aquarium but it has been known to happen.
 
The process is asexual- a small white bud appears with a visible mouth and no tentacles. Over about a week or so tiny tentacles appear, they also move around quite a bit at first until they stake out their spot.

After looking at a lot of information on curly-q anemones I do not think that is what these are - their tentacles are thick more like a borneman's. They are identical to the last picture in this thread.

I think you are right, they do look like p. buitendijki. Much moreso than e. crucifer.
