Too much flow?

I have an Eheim 1260 return pump pumping about 1.5m high, in my 47g mantis shrimp tank as return pump. This is the only flow. It is roughly 15 x turnover (pump is rated at 635gph which is about 450gph with head loss).

Is this too much for the mantis? I see that as long as the mantis is sitting on the LR he is fine, but when he tries to walk across the substrate he has some trouble walking.

i dont think it's any problem. Unless im mistaken, i recall Dr. Roy saying that he has observed O. scyllarus living in areas with ripping fast current. just so long as the flow isn't pointed right into the mantis' burrow, it should be fine.

No the flow is the general flow from the return pump - which returns at the water surface causing nice agitation there, but rather broad flow through the whole tank as it is deflected off the walls.

I've dove in Indonesia in several-knot currents, and O. scyllarus were scurrying around with no problems whatsoever.
