I dosed a whole bottle of Salifert FWE on my 125G tank. After an hour or so all of my sps color started to turn white. I just did a 25% water change. I heard some dosed 3X the recommened dosage i dont think i went that far.

white very fast usually = not good.....

i would continue water changes and maybe run some carbon or something?

yeah i just added about half a bottle of kents;s carbon ..hope that'll help

But i still dont get it. The recommended dosage is 4 drops per 5 gallon of water to be treated. The whole bottle is about 250 drops which equal to 50 gallons of water. If anything i underdosed.

that is strange.... but apparenlty something else bad either got in your water, or for some reason, your corals got unhappy real fast.... maybe they just reacted wrong for some reason.... i dunno...

I don't think people were overdosing it in the systems. I think it was overdosed for a dip.

I could be wrong but that is what I thought I had read

The flatworm exit has nothing to do with your SPS bleaching. The body toxin that the flatworms release when they die is what is causing it. The directions are very specific on how much carbon should be run after the treatment and water changes. The body juice from the flatworms is very toxic. Even following the directions I had problems because I had such a bad outbreak of flatworms. The more flatworms the more toxins released.

You need to use it to kill the flatworms. It can be doesed in the main tank, but you need to run a ton of carbon to remove the toxins from the flatworm die off. Preferable the carbon should be run in a cannister filter to force the water through the carbon. I noticed when I used it that many of my bristle worms and other critters died. I believe it was from the massive flatworm die off rather then from the FWE itself.

I personally do not use anything in mymain tank. I just don't believe the overdose method was used as a dose for your main tank but as a dip for FW infested Acro's.

I am not 100% sure on this.. Hopefully someone else who overdosed the system will chime in.

Rueg is correct that a mass die off of flat worms can cause a tank crash because of the toxins they canb release and the mass amount of decaying organics dying FW's become,

you need to read the thread at the top of the page Acro Eating Flatworms in a Bowl: Test Time! . They are using the high doses of fwe.

if the FW are realeasing toxin i sure dont see any dead FW...i know what they look like but i cant find their dead bodies anywhere..strange

Ditto what Todd and prodman said...
I've whacked my tank w/ up to 6.5 bottles... corals were fine. Something else killed your corals, the most likely candidate, if you had a FW infestation, is the toxin from the FW's. It is rather nasty stuff.

It's also a good idea to siphon out as many as possible afterwards.

Umm... where did you read 4 drops per 5 gallons???

Here's the dosage information directly from Salifert's website:

Dosage:
Read all the above text before commencing with the treatment!

- 1 drop for every 4 liters or 1 gallon.
The dropper contains approx. 300 drops (10 ml). The dropper cap holds approx. 90 drops.
So 1 cap full is good for 360 liters or 90 gallons.

tang man you have the earlier test kit..mine is after 2005 version hence the different dosage.

i wish there was something for me to siphon out but i dont see any FW dead bodies anywhere.

John, according to the instructions you posted, the 250 drops will treat 200g of water.

You use 4 drops for every 5 gallons. So you're using 1 drop per every 0.8 gallons of water.

There are 250 drops. Take this and multiply by the 0.8 gallons of water it will treat.

You can treat 200 gallons.

I dont think it would be too smart to come out with a new batch that only treats 20% of what the previous did, at the same price.

HTH,
joe
