Too much light

My tank is 375 gallons and I have 2 400 watt lights over the openings on the top, Is this too much light for a large purple gorgonian that is about 2/3 the way up the tank. There is some tissue deterioration on some of the branches, what can be done. I just don't want the whole thing to die on me.

Can you take a pic of the gorg so we know what kind you are talking about? While the light may not cause tissue deterioration algae growth on it sure can.
