Too much light

Is a 250 watt hqi too much for a 24 gallon aqua pod? I was planning on hanging it so if i raised it up would it be ok?

10.41 watts per gallon is ALOT of light. I would try to move the light upward. What corals are you wanting to keep? SPS everything will be fine just make sure they don't bleach out due to too much light. Acclimate all the corals slowly. I personally would downgrade to a 175 Watt Metal Halide.

let me ask you this, what corals are you wanting to keep? To me that is overkill for zoas (the metal halide that is). Give me a list and I can answer your question better for you.

ditch the metal halide all together. sell it off and buy a nice 110 Watt PC ficture. All the corals you are wanting to keep don't need the bright light that a metal halide provides. In the long run it will be overkill, more energy consumed, and may also heat your tank up substantialy due to the metal halides.

I think there is no replacement for the look of Metal Halide as well. I would go with a 70 watt MH with softy's in that tank and a actinic fluorescent of some type to supplement it. Great for sunrise/sunset effect too.

I agree metal halides give an effect that no other light can. You can get by with a 70 watt MH and some PC actinic sumplement lightting.
