Too yellow?

So, i got my VHOS act. and my new XM 10,000k bulbs hooked up on my new reflector (canopy) . I fired them up and i was like wow these are a lot brighter than my 20,000k, then after 24-30 hours of burn time they are way to yellow. I'm wondering will these change back to white or am i seeing there true color. I am inexperienced in 10,000k. Or do i send them back and get XM 15,000k. I am somewhat limited to what kind of bulb with a mag. ballast. Or do i add more actinic ? If anyone has pics of 175 MH 10,000k that would be great. I just hate sending these back. Or any suggestions. I want sps growth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks wayne

Give them a 1/4 to 1/2 turn once or twice and a day to change. I've personally seen this change the color of bulbs.

XM 10K's do tend to be yellow. Also, make sure you water clarity is good. Are you using carbon? Your water will turn "yellow" in time if you aren't using carbon to help keep it clear, which will make the yellow look even more obvious.

Dont use the XM 15Ks, they have a terrible PAR rating. If anything, save up and get some Ushio or AB 10K's, much better color.

The bad thing about Ushio or AB's they won't fire on my mag ballast.. That's what wanted to begin with, but what do you do . sell everything and buy 400watt radiums? i wish.

175 watt XM 10k are pretty yellow. You will need to add actinics to get a decent white. Like Allen said if you want to run 10K's go with a Ushio or Hamilton. I had great luck with both of those brands, but I still chose to add actinics to get a nice white/blue.

i dunno whats up with your bulbs, it must be because your using magnetic ballasts.

ive heard a few times that xm 10k bulbs are yellow but i cant see it at all.

ive got probably 70 hours on mine now and they are too white if you ask me, heck i have 4 96 watt pc actinics on with them and they drown them out almost completely.
turn actinics off and its like a welder, pure white.
they make my sand look like snow.

someone wants to accept a pic from me and they can post a pic of them without any actinics.

jeez they are brite.

A lot of it is probably your eyes adjusting to the new color. I've heard/seen pics where rotating the bulb while it's hot can help the yellow problem. I tried this, it is very difficult to do without burning yourself. I would recommend using a hot pad and being very careful.

I agree with Allen, don't bother with the xm15ks.

The electronic ballasts will typically push a bulb harder than a magnetic and that could be the reason for sean's whiter light. My experiance with MH bulbs has been from a purely magnetic ballast point of view and I have never had issues with firing a Ushio either. Do you know if you have a pulse start ballast?

It is a Advance M57 lamp ballast. I've never tried to fire an AB or Ushio but Hellolights tell me they won't guarantee them to fire. Also i have brand new Vho' = Aro ballast with 6' coralife actinics . i just wonder if need to add more?

Well, I would drop the Coralifes and get some URI, or I guess now its UV Lighting, Super Actinics, much better bulb.

You can run a Ushio on a magnetic ballast. I dont agree with the electronic pushing them harder, it will actually put less power to them.
However, according to Sanjays testing, they do have a higher CCT on electronics, which will make them look whiter.

Another bulb you may want to look at is the Iwasaki 14K, I think you would like the color better and it has a VERY good PAR rating for a 175W bulb.

I actually ordered the URI super actinic but 2 days later Hellolights called me and said they are backorder and don't know when they will shipped, so i just said seem me the coralife's. I turned my MH bulbs while they are running and it seemed to help out a lot. Or my eye's are playing tricks on me. Had i know i could of had Ushio's on my mag ballast, i would of bought them. thanks wayne

Also this is off topic but how do i change my screen name ? i don't know what i was thinking putting in that name Annewayne.
