Took the leap!

Paint your walls a color that will match your tank. Maybe black so it really stands out. LOL

I need to paint half of my house too. Maybe if we have the next meeting at our place you guys can give me your opinion of what colors I should do. The colors I started with are making it tough.

I do feed quite a bit though, I'm still looking at skimmers because

That statement.....

I don't really want a super good one that's going to make the water too clean, need to leave food in there for the gorgs, clams and dusters.

And this statement.... don't really go together. If you feed heavily, you will need a top dog skimmer!! What will your total water volume be?? 135g + 40g sump (half full) = roughly 155g total?? I guess I disagree with your thinking here Tiffany. You want the baddest skimmer one can afford and feel free to feed as much as you like. That's what I do with my BM200.

Maybe one of those new Octopus extremes.

I hear those are looking to be pretty good. I would also look at The ORCA and the same skimmer I have, the BM200. Ya know, currently, my water volume is 150g +/-... But I have the option to add more tanks to the system and feed heavily, both of which I plan to do. The BM200 is realistically rated for up to 250g.

Check out the Filtration Forum on RC. Lots of GOOD information on there about skimmers. Names like DAS, H&S, Deltec, ATi BM, Bubble King, AquaC, MRC, GEO...all of which I looked into before I bought mine. My investigation took well over a month to decide. Lots of reading and even a few threads closed down!!! Quite a conversation piece I must say!!

The Octopus Extreme is going to use the same pump I have on my BM200. They are definitely worth taking a look at Click Me

Now I have to figure out what color to paint my living room before we set the tank up and make it impossible to do.

We painted our foyer, in another house we owned, an orange color. Most people when they heard about it got upset. But when they saw it, they commented how nice it was. I am in favor of something other than tans and whites. Not too dark, but not the same old boring stuff. Tiffany and James, you guys have some darn nice book shelves in there that look like antiques. I would leave them white and consider painting the rest of the room an olive green color, to showcase the book shelves. You guys have a beautiful home!!!

So, when is the next meeting??

I have a rust colored wall. Sort of rust anyway. I get many compliments on it as well. I'm sure there are some that don't like it but I do and I'm the one that sees it 365 days a year. Problem is, it's hard to color up all the other white walls around it. ?? We'll need pics. How'd you know they have nice antique looking shelves? Did I miss pics somewhere?

Regarding the skimmer, I too wonder if the water will be too clean. Also, it seems like we're going to have to turn off all pumps to feed well. Otherwise, everything just gets swept off and down to the sump it goes. Seems like we have a lot of flow without any additional pumps in our system right now. We've had to place some of our softies very carefully so they weren't getting blasted. Should I leave the pumps off for a while each feeding? If so, how long?

Well I want a skimmer for the extra filtration but I don't want one that's going to strip the water super-duper clean at the same time. I don't plan on having a huge fish list either. Don't forget, we might have the 20 gallon mantis tank hooked in, so that's 175 gallons! Skimmer will be a major expense I think.

Mr. James stopped in and checked out my tanks so he got to see the living room. I do want to leave the bookshelves white, I think they look really nice. I'm just awful at decorating and picking out colors. My furniture is tan so that'll go will just about anything at least. Here's a pic of my living room to give you an idea.

James wants to paint one wall red! Not sure if we can pull it off personally but I also like crazier colors, nothing drab. The whole room is going to revolve around fish and movies.

Hey, where'd all the stuff go??

And the skimmer will be a major expense.

If you strip the water of everything, then you will have the ultimate skimmer. That type of skimmer is going to cost well over $800 IMO. Are you looking to spend that kind of money?? If not, then you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah, it finally showed up! Alli, the lady at the pet store called me all panicky because the truck driver had just called her and said he'd be there in two minutes and needed people to help unload the big tank. She'd just talked to her supplier this morning and they promised it was coming next Wed and wasn't on the truck.
So lucky James and his buddy Jason (he came with us to the meeting in Bemidji) had to go out in the freezing cold and get a fish tank. We haven't even unwrapped it yet, I made sure there's no huge cracks at least but for safety's sake it's going to stay packaged until the stands built. And where's my stand builder (stepdad)? Leaving for vacation tomorrow morning! That's my kinda luck, huh? Guess I'll spend my money on equipment instead of wood.

You don't think you are gonna get away with JUST an explanation do you?? Guys don't read, they need pictures!! please...

I can totally relate to your dilemna. My 75 was painfully slow at getting up and running. Just when I thought we were ready, we decided to put the sump in the basement, then the pump didn't work with the sump in the basement, etc, etc. I'm glad it's there though and seems to be in good shape. Does it seem BIG?

Alright finally got a pic loaded on the computer, not very exciting I know but it's really here anyways. I'm thinking it'll look a lot more exciting with some water in it.

No, no, it'll actually be about halfway down the room as a divider wall, almost right across from the middle of my bookcase. There's windows almost everywhere in this room, there's only one place to put it against the wall and it would take up too much space that way. I should have cropped the photo a bit, I have chairs sitting at my air hockey table in this pic. We took down the dinner table to make room for the tank but left the air hockey one up. See my priorities?

No not really, I'm broke and my stand builder handyman (stepdad) isn't coming back from vacation for a while yet, so I'm stocking up on little things, buying powerheads, salt, rock. I still need to get a couple big things like another light and a skimmer but that's going to wait until I start getting more hours at work. I keep buying more coral though....bad Tiffany!
