Tooth coral placement

I was wondering where should I place this coral in my tank. I currently have it on the sand about 28 inches away from the light(my light are 8" away from the water). The light is 175W SE 14K venture, 4 months old.

The reason I ask is few of my red mushroom (new) are reaching up for the light and they were at least 3 feet away from the MH (not sure about the wattage, maybe 400W) at the store.

Also, I am afraid the tooth coral is not getting enough light because I don't see much tentacals extension....I have no actinics right now, could that be why?

Thanks in advance!

Try feeding cyclopeeze. That may wake it up. Also watch your alkalinity and calcium...and give this bad boy plenty of elbow room. They can reach out quite a ways. It may take a time to acclimate. Most of the lps don't need that much light. It may be a case of too much rather than too little: I haven't kept one in years, so I can't say with authority, but I'm suspecting it won't mind being on the sand for a while.
