Top Crown Snail

Alright, liveaquaria says they max out at 2" and I've read others that say they max out at 4". Anyone know for sure? They also graze on cyano supposedly, any confirmation on that? I'm thinking about getting ~5 but really don't want 5 softball size shells rolling around my tank! :eek1:

Lithopoma undosa are cold-water snails, and consequently may not thrive in a tropical reef tank, especially if you aren't growing the macroalgae or kelp found in their natural habitat. I don't know how large they would grow in a tropical aquarium, but they reach about six inches across the base in the wild.

Liveaquaria has them labeled as Astrea undoza. Do you think it's still Lithopoma undosa though? The shell looks really similar.

I bought some of these to experiment with, and they did not eat: Cyanobacteria, bryopsis hair algae.

the did eat, diatoms, coraline algae, chaetomorpha, red macroalgae ceramium. cladophora

If you cool the tank to 76 or less, they lived 2 years before I had to move and gave them away. If your tank gets in the 80's, they will be dead in about a month or two.

I think people confuse the fuzzy red macro with cyano and that's where that comes from. I would say avoid.
