Hi Greg. Thanks for the compliment.

I started dosing vodka 3-4 years ago. It worked well but wanted to try something different. So I went full blown Zeo with reactor, basic 4, and supplements. The past 2 years I have done a hybrid system of my own. I don't use the zeolith (rocks) anymore. On occasion I will use zeobak, zeofood, and vodka (in place of start2). My favorite supplement/food is Pohl's Coral Vitalizer. I've tried most of their line and can do without it. 1-2x per week I will feed Reed Mariculture oyster eggs and roti feast. The fish like frozen cubes of mysid, brine, and cyclops.

Hey Rob,

Tank looks great, had some quick questions on what you are adding and how often...you are a little vague on what and when you are dosing today..can you expand...even if it is "when I remember to" that is ok...I am actually pulling some of my sandbed out this week and moving toward a more bare bottom tank, but want to here some local ideas on the zeo products and vodka in particular...

Thanks (and thanks again for the salt)...

Jason

Sure Jason. Don't mean to sound deceptive or vague.

For the past 2 years or so this is my husbandry/dosing schedule:

1. Five gallon weekly water change (6-7%) with 50/50 IO/O mix.
2. Zeobak, Food7, vodka- 2 drops of each 2x weekly
3. Pohl's Coral Vitalizer (PCV)- 3 drops 3x weekly
4. One squirt of Oyster eggs and Roti Feast from bottle 1-2x weekly
5. Fish are fed 2 cubes frozen mysid shrimp, brine, and cyclops

I don't use:

1. phosphate remover
2. carbon
3. zeolith
4. nitrate sponge

SG- 1.025
PO4- 0.00-0.03 (Hanna) I prefer 0.03 for better color.
NO3- zero or as close as these test read (Salifert, Elos)
dKH- 6-8 I like to keep it at 7-7.2 I use Tropic Marin Bio Calcium
Ca- 420-425
Mg-1400 I know it's a little high but that's what the 50/50 mix gives me.

Nice color, tank I would love to see some full tank shots, to appreciate the full beauty of the tank!

Great Job!
Ben

Beutiful Tank! Love the spectrum of colors. And I really like how its not overpowered.

How long would you say it took you to really figure out the perfect regimen for your tank?

We are just starting out again- and I know its going to take a long time of making adjustments.

Pecan- no additional live rock in the sump. Lotta live rock= lotta nitrate. My skimmer does most of the filtration.

ilikelps- thanks you.

j4- thank you. This is not my first tank. Honestly, my first 3 tanks I had no clue. I had tons of algae, colors were poor, etc. This 75g started from mostly 1-2 frags and looked extremely bare the first year. The key is patience.

I also have a 29 biocube that I started 6 months ago in similar fashion. One piece of live rock with tiny frags. That tank is just finally looking decent but I won't post picture until it looks mature.

Kudos to you Rob!
I can never be as disclipined as you are in regards to fish load. I always start out with 2 and it ends up to be 20 hence the need for live rock :lol2:

I'm very inspired to try this :)

Thx,
Warren

2 girls give us a look at that tank it will inspire us

Sorry, can't do it. I will say that I take an entirely different approach with it. It is the total opposite of my 75g. The tank is skimmerless. It also has a sand bed. I use MH lighting. Run a chiller during the summer. I add NO supplements. It has a heavy bio load with 4 fish fed well. Weekly 25% water changes keep nutrients ultra low.

The corals are just as colorful as my 75. It just proves that there a many methods that work.

my2girls,
I saw some of your frags at PC, Joe is doing a good job browning them out

Joe, I'm only kidding :)
Thanks for the nice discounts on the ORAs, solar & salt. You have a great selection of ORA corals!

They don't stay there long enough to get brown. Plus the new Aquactinics fixtures will give them plenty of light.

It's Rons fault. He drinks all the vodka I'k trying to dose!;)

great tank!! I read you use Tropic Marin Bio Cal. I do as well and think its a great product. You dont find to many people using it.

The only down side to it is the labeling has NO mention of alk. It only mentions the effect on Calcium, so setup and figuring out your dose can be a guessing game. but once you figure it out its simple, consistent and effective!

For those that dont know its a 2 part powder that suppliments Calc and Alk in proper ratios.

Bio Calcium is a balanced one part powder. You add it directly to the tank (sump). No premixing or dilution.
