Top down pictures

There are some really beautiful pictures of tanks taken from the top down. Every time I try this, the reflection of the actinics in on the water surface. what settings on your cameras do you use, and what do you do to the tank before taking these pics?

You might consider building a viewing box out of acrylic. Here's one example:

There was also someone on RC that built a cover for his lens out of a tupperware bowl and acrylic.
