I want to purchase aTop System for my 75 gal tank. I have viewed two. At Spectra Pure the UPLC-ll $200 also the Tunze Osmolater 3155. Any recommendation as to which one. I like the UPLC as it has no pump in water and only a tube going to the sump. Thanks

If you like to build stuff you can do it pretty cheap with a 5 gallon container, a float valve and some 1/4" tubing. Gravity fed.

As for the all-in-one solution, people seem pretty sold on the Tunze.

The Tunze is a good unit, I'm about to get a 3152 for my desktop system at work. Only 15g running softies so I'm not looking to drop a ton in to it.

That said, I am running the AutoAqua Smart ATO on my system at home. Love it. It's the size of a shotglass and the sensor attaches magnetically with no float switch. Once a payperiod I wipe any crud off the sensor and it's good to go for a while again.

I have been using the osmolator for about a year and like it, no issues. I have not used the spectrapur unit so no help there.

Spectrapure unit a very solid unit and you can pump your top off water a long distant away. My top off reservoir is in my basement approximately 15 feet away and 12 feet below my tank. Pump is very quiet and reliable.

I found an ATO for about $50 and i am using a tote as a water reservoir. You can definitely get this done for cheap.

Mine is a tank that sites higher then my sump with a Vinyl line running to the sump on a float Valve.. Been using this for years without a issue....
Sometimes simple things just work ......less then 20.00 including the container...

Don't you mean lower than your sump? If it was higher wouldn't it start a syphon and dump all your fresh water into it at once?

Nope a 15 gallon tank sitting about 1 foot higher then the top of my sump.. its actually on the other side of the room from the sump... With a Line running down HILL To the sump with a Float Valve . when the water creeps down the float causes the valve to open letting water Flow from the tank into the sump.

Water Runs down here NOT UP....

Used an Avast Marine auto top off and their diaphragm pump on our large system. It's plumbed into a 50 gallon drum connected to the RODI unit.

On our frag tank, I used an Autotopoff.com double controller and their smallest pump. It's plumbed into a 29 gallon tank. I run a 50 foot RODI hose to fill up the 29 gallon ATO tank when it gets low from the RODI unit.

Both units work great :)

Ah I use the jbj auto topoff and have it pump the water in.

I WOULD GET THE TUNZE 3155. i just woke up today and my tubing on my gfo got lose and was emptying water on the floor. thank god the tunze stop after 10 mins. yes you can make your own or buy cheaper units and i was going to . but in case your float switch gets stuck or anything else. you will be glad you spent the 215 bucks on the tunze
