Hi all,I was looking for opinions on the top three submersilbe return pumps for usage at approx 4ft head. The tank will be in my living room so it has to very quiet and reliable. Please omit mag drive. Is ehiem the only option here???

I have two 1.5 " drains so will the ehiem be adequate seeing it only returns 900gph and im draing approx 2600gph??

You will only drain as much water as your pumping up to your tank.

I changed my large return pump (Sequence) on my 160gallon to a Eheim 1262. The smaller pump uses less electricity is quite and slow flow through the sump allows for better skimming. I have 3 Streams and a Maxi jet Mod in the tank for water movement. The Eheim is a great pump.

Ocean Runner over eheim. Theyre MUCH MUCH more efficient, which means less heat, less energy.

I have both, and prefer the Eheim, it is quieter. Unless $$$ is an issue, then get the oceanrunner.

imo, Mike

Thanks for the advice guys,so the fact that my overflows have the potential to drain 2600gph only means they will do this if the return pump is large enough,so with a ehiem pushing 900gph to the tank will the overflow box waterlevel be the same as the main tanks level or less? Will the large diameter bulk-heads quickly drain the water to the point were the pump is unable to return it fast enough giving me a lower water level in my overflow box?

I have an Ocean Runner 3500, very quiet. probably around 800 - 900 gph at 4' head into tank provides a very thin sheet flow at the 13" wide overflow.
Overflow water level needs to be high to quiet the water fall. Use a durso or stockman type standpipe to keep the level up and quiet.
Check out http://home.nc.rr.com/stockmanreef/ for a tight corner overflow box solution.
yes, without some solution like this the box will drop low and be noisy.
