I think that depends if their distributors carry the product line. I asked about a certain item before and they checked with their distrs. which didn't have it. The LFS referred me to an online store to buy it from and said they were good to deal with.

Nikonosis, Just remember you are buying aquarium supplies and livestock, not a used car. I think most of the stores are very reasonable, but when you try to haggle them down like crazy it makes them want to charge you more out of principle. I will say it again, the margin of profit made at aquarium stores is laghable. Take it easy on the LFS's, we have it really good right now in Jax. I personally do not mind paying more when the selection is as good as it is right now in town.

i know some of the stores mark certain things up 400%. I don't know if you have read any of the thread on RC about pacific coast skimmers but there is only a few stores that sell them and I know for a fact they are paying $87 for one of the skimmers and are turning around and selling it for $490. I got a price list from the distributor that makes them and sells them to fish stores in the USA. Im not saying our lfs's do that but i know there are lots of stores that do.

You gotta remember that we generally buy at the wholesale rate, not the distributor rate, which is cheaper.
