Topping up sand

bought some new coral sand and rinsed out several times is it ok just to add it all at once or will this cause a spike on a established sand bed ?

I would add it little by little.

You can use a PVC pipe of 3" or so and let it fall through to the bottom a little at a time. You can put it all in a little at a time to spread it around without too much dust storm. Just take your time and do it slowly.
