Torch Coral extending like mad

So I have a torch coral and it seems happy. However I have a few tentacles on one side that extend like mad. They seem to keep getting longer and longer until they reach something to try and sting it. Any suggestions why? I had to move a leather coral that was 5 inches away.

I think it's extending to find room to grow. With them not having eyes, they need to feel their way through their surroundings. These extensions will sting it's neighbors, so watch out how close you have it to other pieces.

the leathers wage their own chemical warfare, and the torch probably was just responding. I wouldn't be surprised if the torch settled back to normalcy now that the leather is gone

Yes it's actually more normal looking now.

Yep just a normal response from corals. That's the don't mess with me move.
