torch coral melting

what could cause a head of a green torch coral to almost instantly melt away. it has been expanded and healthy for months and then all of the sudden after i clean the glass and turkey bast the rocks one of the heads starts to melt away and fall apart. the other corals and torches are fine and the fish are fine. something must have caused this. Any thoughts?

I think the params would be necessary to further help out.
I know that my frogspawn really didnt' like being moved about too much.
Sorry for your loss of the head though, that's always a disappointment.

Sounds like brown jelly disease, very common with frogspawn, torch and hammer. The only way to stop the spread of brown jelly is to cut the heads off that aren't doing well as mentioned above

you must remove the bad head even if all the tentacles are gone. the disease will spread and kill the whole coral.

Its not necessarily something you did to cause this, but you can stop it from getting worse.

Good luck
Jess

i didnt touch its mouth or its tissue. i do have hermits and they could have messed around with it. it may be brown jelly but what i dont know is why it would come out fo no where and attack a very healthy coral so fast.

that is exactly what brown jelly does, comes out of nowhere and can kill very quickly. I have never seen a hermit bring on brown jelly disease
