torch coral vs. fingerleather

Two of the first corals I got and I placed them with 10 inches between them. Obviously not enough. My inexperience in how big these guys can get.

Anyway the finger leather is about the size of a basketball and the torch coral is about the size of a grapefruit. The edge of the leather comes into contact with the torch coral on occasion even though it has curved its body away from it. The torch coral tenticles on that side are thick and puffy. The leather also seems thicker and has less open polyps in that area. Not a significant portion of the leather maybe 5% or so. Even if I could move them (they are the only two I glued in place - hence the problem) I have no better place in the tank open.

Finally the questions - what do you think is best:

1) Do nothing - been like this for the last 6 months both still seem to be generally happy.

2) Cut away a portion of the leather to give more space? i.e. frag it.

I would hate to kill the leather but I have heard it is somewhat common to frag them? Any issues with this to be aware of?

Thanks

I frag my leather frequently. Mine too is on a larger rock, so removing it to frag isn't an option. I simply take a pair of scissors and cut a piece off. I have read so people say that the liquid secreted from the leather is toxic, but nothing has died or been effected in my tank. I have changed my carbon before fragging, just in case. I didn't do this in the beginning. The leather will go to it's unopen state for a few days and then day by day start to open back up. Until it fully opens up again, usually a week or two. Hope this helps. Certainly not a pro, but this is my method. HTH
