Torch question and Elegance comment

Got a beautiful purple tip elegance that had not been opening well. I moved him around to different locations and he has been perfect ever since I place him under a overhang.

Question, got a aussie torch--lavender--gorgeous who when I intially put him in I placed him high in the aquarium and he did well for a few days and then started to stay closed. I knew he should be close to the bottom or on the bottom with mod flow so he is now in his 3rd spot halfway up but is not very open. How long should I give him to adjust before moving him? Any suggestions? I know it is prob just a matter of finding him the right spot.

unless the elegance is coming out of Australia harvested from higher in the reef(brighter lighting) they do not do well with captivity.There is no real way of telling except they will be evidence of it being fraged in most cases and wil be smaller than the indo ones that are collected from under ledges and have no to little light
Try feeding the elegance

From my experience my torch does best on the bottom half of my tank it seems to give me the best extension also once or twice a month i feed it pea sized peices of marine meat (shrimp,squid,cuttlefish,etc).
I Have had my torch for about 2 years it started with 3 heads and now has over 24 five are little heads

My elegance is doing awesome. Moved it to the shade and he is back. I do try to feed him. The torch is the one I'm now concerned with.

Torch corals like medium flow and medium light. If there is too much flow hitting the torch it might retract. I have my torch right under the metal halides with low flow and it loves it.

Try to find a spot with medium light and just enough flow that the tentacles gently sway back and forth in the current.

Depends on the torch coral. Many euphyllia can take very high light, as much as SPS. Much of the freshly imported stuff however (typically aussie) seems to be a little less tolerant.
