Total noob ? About frags/mushrooms

I bought some frags yesterday for the first time. My question is when placing a frag on a plug in my tank do I put the whole plug in the tank or am I supposed to remove the plug?

Also I bought two mushrooms. The green striped one seems ok but the blue one has moved under the LR. It's basically buried under the rock. Is this normal? I'm wandering if my light is to much for it. Are mushrooms better on the sand or rock?

Some people remove the frag from the plug, some don't. Mushrooms will move around till they find a spot they like. Low light, low flow.

I think it'll look better off the plug. Is their a trick to removing it? Last thing I want to do is damage anything.
