No, not at all. I just kept it compact due to the room I have it in.

I'm just concerned that all the pressure from the weight of the tank would all be concentrated in the tiles closest to the stand, and could crack since there's no pressure on the outer tiles. Heck, if it'll work, it'll look great and serve as spill protection from the carpet. I allways get water all over the place.

as long as the tile is uniformly glued to the backer there shouldn't be a problem. You could always go thicker on the plywood to make it a stiffer system.
