Tourch Coral placement in my tank?

The other day I bought a frogspawn and a tourch coral (neither shown the picture). Right now the frogspawn looks great but most of the tourch coral is still looking deflated and limp. I have a 20K 250W DE bulb over the center of my tank for lighting. For flow I have a mag 9.5 for my return plus 3 powerheads for water circulation.

So I am wondering where should the tourch coral be located in my tank? My understanding is that it should be at the bottom but how much flow is ideal? should I see the polyps moving a lot or not at all in the current or somewhere in between?

If it still looks bad i would try to place it in a semi shady spot, may be an accimation problem with the lighting. I had my torch in medium/strong flow and it loved it. LPS is good at addapting to flow. I would say medium flow would work well. As for placement once it extends prety much anywhere as long as it cannot touch another coral, moved mine all over with no problems, hope that helps.

You have only 1 250w MH on a 120 gallon? If that is the case, I would say that maybe you want to move him higher up. I would say, imo, that e needs more light than that. At the bottom of a 24" tank with only 1 250w isnt a lot of light. Mine has always been happy in a fairly light flow. Just enough to gently sway its tentacles.

You're right if its right under the light and a 4 footer, Dj. For some reason I was assuming it was a 60x18x24 tank, maybe not.

I just concentrate all of my more light demanding organisms in the center of the tank and place things like mushrooms to the sides. However at the end of the month I am upgrading to an aquamedic fixture with 2 250W MH bulbs.

I wouldn't think that your lighting is too strong for it. Where is it located now? I would maybe give it another day or 2 and if it doesnt fully inflate , move it up a little.

How many days have you had it?
Has it ever looked good in your tank or its been limp the whole time?

I have had it for 4 days and 2 polyps have come out a bit but there are still 2 retracted inside. The ones that are out are not entirely inflated either. This is the way it has been for the time I had it and this was how it looked in the LFS because I bought it right when they arrived. I also bought a green frogspawn that is doing great and inflates a little more each day.

I'd say give it a week. If it still doesn't look good, move it up a little and see if it helps.
Have you been able to spot feed it? I assume not if it isnt fullly inflated(i've never been able to spot feed mine???).

Heres a picture from today of the frogspawn next to the torch that I bought the same day. The frogspawn hasnt been moved since I placed it in the tank. The torch I have tried moving around a bit to make it look better. For now I am just going to leave the two down there and wait for some improvement... Ya I've got a bit of cyno too because I must have added a little too much food. I also just put in a new bulb last month as the last one was too old and was giving me a really bad cyno problem.

Thats a really sweet looking frogspawn. The torch looks bad but not horrible. Give him some time and hopefully he'll be looking like that frog!
