Trachy eats bristle worm

Something interesting and surprising happened in my reef this past week. I was spot feeding my trachy, mysis shrimp, using a turkey baster and accidentally fed it a half inch bristle worm. No idea how the bristle worm got into the baster except that before the feeding I had been using it to blow off my rocks. Must have sucked it up then. Anyways the trachy swallowed up the worm in a relatively quick fashion. I watched the coral closely for some time to see if the worm would crawl back out but it was gone. A week later and no ill effects. Trachy is fat and happy. This may not be necessarily noteworthy to the long time reefers but I was surprised by it. I expected the trachy to reject the worm and thought to worm would just crawl out. Must explain why I never see any hermit on the trachy.

I always worried about all the bristle worms that live under my trachy's but I guess no big deal. Good to know.

I have seen bristle worms try to grab the food from the trachys while they are swallowing it but part of the worm remains under the trachy so it can retract quickly if threatened.
