Brownish pink? I guess you can call it brown. It had some green on it @ the store but everything in my tank look brown. :mad2:

Hehehe... there you guys go with the brown jokes all the time :)

Hey, are you running phosphate remover at all?

I added some to my sump a couple days ago, and I'm seeing the colors brighten up. I'd measured no phosphates previously, but thought I'd give the remover a try. Seems to be helping.

I'm not using any phosphate remover. Everything else in my tank seems to do ok. Color of some of all of my acros are coming back except for this and the Monti Cap.

come to my house to pick up the $$ tonight and let me know what you like from my "brown" tank :D .. I trade with you :p

Mr. Ugly,
I love brown color.. Can you tell??

Hey man, I have to work tonight, short stafff. I'm booked up for the rest of the week. Probably have to wait until Sunday night when I'm off.

I have a green plating montipora with purple polyps that I can frag a piece from.

Or a brown with purple rim (not that brightly colored) plating montipora.

Dudley,

I picked up a small container of PhosZorb last weekend. Supposedly not the the most effective stuff, but I just wanted to test.

Also, I'd read about people with stuff bleaching, supposedly from dropping their phosphates too quickly or too far. So I figured the PhosZorb might be a good way to ease into it.

If it continues to look like the phosphate remover is helping, I'll probably get some PhosBan and run a small amount in the sump. Then after the tank adjusts, maybe put together a reactor.

I didn't know that phosphate has an effect on the colors of our corals as well. Interesting, give us some feedback in a few weeks. A phosphan reactor seems extremely easy to DIY. 4" PVC and a couple adapters, should get you a phosban reactor. Are we supposed to run the reactor all day?

Hehehe.... isn't phosphate one of the main reasons for brown corals? People say excess nutrients, and to me that means phosphates and nitrates, as well as stuff that breaks down into phosphates and nitrates.

Phosphates are yummy for the all the lovely brown zoanxanthellae. Phosphate run-off from fertilizer and detergents is what make for all the nasty algae blooms in polluted waters.

I'm guessing that you could/would/should run your phosban reactor 24/7 once you acclimate your system to the lower phosphate levels. Maybe start off with just a few hours a day, and ease into 24/7?

I've actually not read up on phosban usage much at all. I'm sure there's a ton of info on the SPS forum. Normally, I'm an extreme RTFM kind of guy, but this time I just did a quick read as far as brands and problems.
