Trade my Mag 7 for......

I'm looking to trade my mag 7 for a mag 4 or 5. Mine's in super good shape, but I need something with less flow. PM me if you have anything. I need to know pretty quick, otherwise I'm going to buy something to get it here for a weekend project.

I'm not positive, but I think you can just swap out the mag 5 and 7 impellers. To change to a mag 3, you would need a new impeller cover as well as the mag 3 impeller.

Cool, I'll check into that. I have my new reeflo skimmer coming this week and it's only supposed to have between 300-600 gph pump to feed it, and I don't really want to vavle down a 7. Thanks for the info!

Check the Danner web site first.

The impeller covers are the same part number for the 5 and 7. The impeller cover is different for the 3, but the pump body is the same. In theory, if you were to just change the 7 impeller to the 5 impeller, not only would you reduce flow from say 700gph to 500gph, but you would also reduce the wattage from 70w to 50w.

Not exact numbers for flow and wattage.

As far as the skimmer goes... don't you want between 1 and 1 1/2 times total tank volume turnover per hour, through the skimmer?

Reeflo recommends between 300-600 gallons per hour feed pump. It holds 5 gal of water itself, and is a recirc skimmer. My friend has the 250 and runs a mag 7 on his. Mine will be the 200, so I may just end up valving the mag 7 way down for now. It's an external as well, so I'm just going to be feeding it with this pump.

personally id just valve it down, a lot easier to do that than get a new pump if you want it higher
