I had several hitchhiker crabs (aka Rock or Gorilla crabs) in my Live Rock, along with other not so fun things.
When they were found, Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ve banished all the crabs to the return section of my sump. I recently took a look and of the 11 banished crabs, only 5 were left, all a little bigger.
There was one crab that was a different species that the others, its claws were smaller, body shape different. About 2 weeks ago, I decided to take this one crab and move it to my frag tank. It found a new home in a rock close to the front of the tank. There are a couple fish in the tank also. When I feed the fish daily, Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ve been providing a little food directly to the opening of where the crab lived. In the last couple of days, this normally shy crab has started to emerge from the opening actually waiting for food. It does not seem to be as jumpy when I am near the tank.
The crab is small enough that I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think it poses a threat to any of the occupants and since the frag rack is suspended from the top of the tank, all frags are safe.
Just thought Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d share this experinment.
