Hello all

I am bringing home my two juvenille clowns tomorrow.
What is the best method to transfer them to my tank? I would like something simple, but I want to do the best to not stress them out. Any suggestions?

Clowns are tough I wouldn't worry too much. Just acclimate them (drip or add water to the bag) then net em. Do not add the water from the LFS. I would QT them for a month first myself...

Thanks for the info. My LFS is actually holding them for me for a couple of weeks, Lucky for me! I will try that method when I bring them home.

Some clown fish (like maroons not sure on the others though!!) have check spines that can get caught in a net. I would still qt the fish myself, you don't know if the fish store has done it properly or if they have added more fish to the tank, if they have added more fish then the qt would have to be restarted. They usually just hold them to make sure they are healthy after the shipping.

you know everyone worries that getting a QT tank will be expensive.. well i did mine today and it was SO SIMPLE and only cost me like 20 dollars... i went to Kmart and got a cheap 8 QT plastic bin (for small fish of course) and a nano filter (15 $ @ LFS) and got some free pre filters cycled ocean water from our local aquarium and that was it!! and oh yeah medicine for ich treatment.. but wow it really was so simple and took 5 minutes to set up!

float the bag for 15min or so..then open it up and away they go in the tank.

I dont care what everyone always says about this 1-2hr drip crap.
I have NEVER ever done anything like that. in all the years and all the goofy and strange animals I have had. I have never done anything but a 10-15min bag float and into the tank they go.
I have never had anything die from doing that and the quickest I ever had anything die was about a month and that wouldnt have anything to do with how long I took on any drip or anything.
I have done this with octos, lions, triggers, puffers, clowns, wrasse, starfish. all lived a pretty long and interesting life.

So now i am ready to hear the OMG i am doing something horrid.

MEE TOOO
but i did have a shrimp die one time
floating the bag is all that is neccesary and aclimating something like a nem really should take two weeks
