Transferring Corals to new tank?

I'm currently in the process of upgrading from a 25 gallon to a tank around 200 gallon. Will be starting out wiith all cured live rocks, that's been cured in a seperate container for a while.

When does everyone think is a good time to move live stock over after tank start up? I read that you shouldn't add LPS corals before 3-4 months, Maxima Clams at least 6 months, and SPS 9-12 months. If I were to follow these guidelines, then it will take me a year to finalize moving the tank.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I just upgraded from an 11 gallon to a 32 gallon. Filled up the 32 gallon with saltwater, let it mix for 24 hours, put some live sand in there, and then transferred everything over. Took about 15 minutes to move everything, within 2 days of filling the 32 gallon with water everything was moved over.

The recommended wait times are if you're starting in a brand new tank with uncycled rock, and generally it's the time it takes new hobbyists to get used to keeping different types of corals after figuring out how to keep their tank stable. If you're sure your ammonia and nitrites are 0 then you're good to move it all over on day 1.

I agree with the above post somewhat, however the problem exist due to your big move from a 25 to 200 gallon change. The live rock you have in your 25 will not sustain the larger 200 gallon tank. If you already have enough live rock and sand from a different source then you might be able to do it fast.

The bacteria you have in your 25 will not be enough to cycle a 200 gallon tank. I recommend dumping all your water from your 25 into your 200 to kick start the cycle as well.

good luck

The rocks are cured though, so the bacteria's already there :)

The only thing is will the tank have a sandbed, and if so is it live sand that's going in there?

I'm most likely starting out with a bare bottom first and then adding Reef Flakes aragonite when they come back in stock.

I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to move water from the old tank to the new tank.

I'm having a little bit of Cyno bloom (air bubbles all over the tank) in the old tank right now, will using that water cause Cyno problems down the road in the new tank?

I have about 160 lbs cured live rock in rubbermaid containers cycling now with a couple piece of raw shrimp and a powerhead.

The raw shrimp is probably doing more harm than good to be honest with you, as far as water you don't need to use the old tank's water in the new one. Bacteria are mainly in the rocks and sand, not as much in the water column. Make sure you ammonia and nitrites are at 0 before switching everything over and you should be good.

As far as the cyano bloom, you should try and trace the cause of it to make sure it doesn't happen in your new tank. It could be overfeeding, lack of flow, or a few other things...
