Transplanting sargassum

I have some sargassum growing in my 5.5g, and while I think it's beautiful, it's really too large for a tiny tank. I'd love to move it into one of my other tanks, but I'm not sure if this is possible. The entire bunch is growing out of one holdfast, is there a way to gently detach the base without damaging the algae so I can move it?

Sargassum has strong regenerative abilities.

You probably won't be able to remove the holdfast in one piece, but you should be able to convince a pruned section to attach to a different rock.
